Here and There, 2024
21st century middle-aged American women are unrecognizable in comparison to our matrilinear counterparts. As mothers we operate under the weight of home, work, & community while providing income, nourishment, management, recreation & transportation for our families. The expectation to succeed in every direction while balancing all the demands & to do so with abundant joy is ludicrous. But here we are.
My work is rooted in creating conversation around the invisible and persistent mental load of women raised in the “having it all” era living in the “doing it all” timeline. With process-oriented projects that include photographic mixed-media, modular installations, and layered compositions with paint and debris, I question the preposterous quest to find balance between selfhood, womanhood, motherhood, working, and rest.
